The body of the former wife of banker Alexander Galitsky, 46-year-old Aliya, was discovered by employees of the temporary detention facility during a tour. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

New details

In the law enforcement agencies of Komsomolskaya Pravda (kp.ru They reported that the data from the surveillance cameras confirmed the fact of Galitskaya's suicide. According to the newspaper, she was in solitary confinement. It is reported that the investigator was supposed to interrogate her and then send her to a pre-trial detention center, but the body was discovered by IVS staff during a tour.

According to the banker's lawyer, Anna Butyrina, the reason for Aliya's suicide could be a hearing scheduled for February 10 on the division of property between the partners. The woman, who faced up to 20 years in prison, as Butyrina clarified, in 2024, together with unidentified persons, threatened the banker to publish information discrediting his honor.

Libel case

Butyrina told Izvestia that a criminal case had been opened against Galitskaya for defamation of a former member of the board of directors of Alfa-Bank, Alexander Galitsky.

"A criminal case was opened against Galitskaya Aliya (his cohabitant) for defamation (Part 5 of Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) for spreading deliberately false information about Galitsky A.V.," Butyrina clarified.

The investigation found that Galitskaya had never been the wife of a businessman, and the Nevada state court in December 2025 recognized that there was no marriage between them and there were no mutual claims between the parties. The final hearing on the division of property is scheduled for February 10, 2026.

According to the lawyer, the libel case was initiated on December 26, 2025. Butyrina also stated that the second case, about extortion, because of which Galitskaya was under arrest, was opened by investigators on February 4.

Galitsky's ex-wife was arrested on February 6 in the case of extortion of $ 150 million from the billionaire. She was supposed to remain in custody until April 3. Two days later, it became known that Galitskaya had committed suicide. A member of the Human Rights Council (HRC), journalist Eva Merkacheva, who reported this, added that the woman left a suicide note in which she blamed her ex-husband for the incident.
