The case of the blogger Markaryan, accused of rehabilitating Nazism, went to court

The Moscow City Court will consider the merits of the criminal case of Arsen Markaryan, accused of rehabilitating Nazism and insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland. This was reported to Izvestia on February 9 in court.

The investigative authorities completed the investigation of the criminal case against the blogger in December last year.

According to the investigation, in March 2025, Markarian posted a video on one of the popular video hosting sites, accessible to an unlimited number of people, which expressed a contemptuously negative attitude towards the feat and memory of Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Matrosov. In addition, he posted a video in one of the messengers, justifying the ideology and practice of Nazism.

Markarian's detention became known on August 23 last year. The police found the blogger in the trunk of a car that was stopped near Kubinka in the Moscow region. On December 29, the Tagansky District Court of Moscow extended the term of Markarian's arrest in the case of insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland until February 22, 2026. The court also rejected the defense's request to commute the blogger's sentence to house arrest.
