Russian short-track speed skater Alena Krylova failed to qualify for the 500 m race at the 2026 Olympic Games in Italy on February 10.

The athlete covered the distance in 1 minute and 6.9 seconds and arrived at the finish line last in her group, allowing a fall. Krylova competed in a neutral status, without using national symbols.

The 1000 m short track qualification starts on February 14 at 22:59 Moscow time. If successfully selected, Krylova will take part in the quarterfinals (13:00 Moscow time), semifinals (13:55 Moscow time) and finals (14:36 Moscow time) on February 16.

Alyona Krylova was born on October 11, 2002 in Novouralsk, Sverdlovsk region. At preschool age, she started skating at the Novouralsk Olympic Reserve Sports School. The athlete's mentor was Alexander Kuzovnikov, a senior short track coach, who continued to work with her in her adult career. Krylova's training plan was adjusted by Honored coach of Russia, founder of the local short track school Alexey Yelnyakov.

At the age of 16, the athlete took the gold of the Russian championship in the all-around and the silver of the 2000 m relay.

Her debut at the adult level in the 2022/2023 season brought Krylova several medals at the Russian Cup. The following year, she won the Russian Cup final and the national all-around championship. At the Spartakiad of the strongest, the athlete won silver in the 1000 m and gold in the relay.

The 2024/2025 season Krylova won gold at the Russian Cup and in the overall 500 m event.

In the 2025/2026 season, Krylova started with two gold medals and a bronze medal in the relay at the Cup of Russia, and then won the national championship twice. She reached the World Cup with a neutral status: 21st and 22nd in Montreal, 26th in Gdansk, 24th in Dordrecht. These figures, the best among Russian women, secured her an Olympic license.

Earlier in the day, Russian skier Savely Korostelev finished 35th in the sprint at the Olympics. The athlete competed in a neutral status, without national symbols, showing a result of 3 minutes 19.88 seconds.
