Short-track speed skater Alena Krylova will qualify for the Olympics on February 10.
On Tuesday, February 10, the qualification for the Russian athlete Alyona Krylova at the Olympic Games in Italy will begin. The Russian woman will take part in the 500 m short track competition at 12:30 Moscow time. Krylova will represent Russia in a neutral status, without using national symbols.
In case of successful qualification, Krylova will compete in the 500 m short track in the quarterfinals on February 12 at 22:15, followed by the semifinals at 22:58 and the final at 23:26 Moscow time.
On Saturday, February 14, the 1000 m short track qualification will begin at 22:59 Moscow time. If the selection is successful, the quarterfinals will begin on February 16 at 13:00, the semifinals at 13:55 and the final at 14:36 Moscow time.
Alyona Krylova was born on October 11, 2002 in Novouralsk, Sverdlovsk region. The athlete's parents were engaged in orienteering. Krylova started skating in preschool years at the Olympic Reserve Sports School in Novouralsk. Her coach was Alexander Kuzovnikov, a senior short track specialist, who accompanied the athlete in her adult career. Alexey Yelnyakov, Honored Coach of Russia and founder of the Novouralsky short track school, also took part in finalizing Krylova's training plan.
At the age of 16, the athlete won gold at the Russian championships in the all-around and silver in the 2000 m relay.
She reached the adult level in the 2022/23 season, immediately taking several medals at the stages of the Cup of Russia. The following year, Krylova won the Russian Cup final, and then won the national all-around championship. The key event was the Russian championship at the Spartakiad of the Strongest, where she took silver in the 1000 m and gold in the relay. In the 2024/25 season, Krylova dominated the sprint distances. The athlete won the stages of the Cup of Russia and became the winner of the national Cup in 500 m.
Krylova started the 2025/26 season with two gold medals and a relay medal in the Russian Cup, and then won the national championship twice. Having received a neutral status, she made her World Cup debut: 21st and 22nd in Montreal, 26th in Gdansk, 24th in Dordrecht. These results were the best among Russian women and secured the athlete an Olympic license.
