On Monday, February 9, Russian luge skier Daria Olesik competed at the 2026 Olympics. She took 14th place. The athlete competed in a neutral status, without using national symbols.

After two attempts, Olesik showed a result of 1 minute 46.651 seconds. The third and fourth races will be held on February 10.

Germany's Julia Taubitz took the first place (1 minute 45.188 seconds), Germany's Merle Froebel took the second place (+ 0.061 seconds), and Latvia's Elina Botha took the third place (+0.495).

Daria Olesik was born in 2004 in the Irkutsk region. She started doing luge at the age of 10, after seeing the performances of Russian athletes at the 2014 Olympics.

The luge skier has competed at the Russian Championships more than once. She won two bronze medals in 2022 and 2023, gold in 2024, and silver in 2025. In addition, the athlete also won the Leonid Gart Memorial Cup.

In 2025, Olesik received a neutral status and the right to participate in international competitions. Subsequently, thanks to the points scored in the overall World Cup, she got the opportunity to participate in the Olympics.
