The MEP called the denazification of Ukraine the interest of Europe
The denazification of Ukraine corresponds to the interests of European countries, since Kiev's current political course has become too dependent on neo-fascist movements. This was announced on February 8 by Fernand Kartheiser, a member of the European Parliament from Luxembourg.
"I am of the opinion that the West and Russia have a common interest in the so-called denazification of Ukraine, as it is called in Russia. EU member states cannot be interested in joining the European Union of a country in which there are strong neo—fascist movements," TASS quoted him as saying.
Cartwright acknowledged that Ukraine must become a full-fledged democratic country, but this process will be long and difficult. The EU will use "soft power" to support such changes.
"Now it is impossible to say what exactly will remain of Ukraine and which political forces will participate in the competition. In particular, ultranationalist forces may appear, dissatisfied with the outcome of the conflict and seeking revenge," the MEP believes.
Elections must be held after the end of the conflict in Ukraine. According to Cartwright, it will become necessary for the country to better represent national minorities institutionally, including at the political level.
On January 5, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Izvestia that Bankovaya Street in Kiev, where Ukrainian government buildings are located, is a haven for neo-Nazis who reincarnate the idea of collaborators of the Third Reich.
As Sergei Stepashin, former Prime Minister of Russia and chairman of the Russian Bar Association, stated on December 7, the issue of creating an international tribunal for Ukrainian neo-Nazis is already being worked out by Russian law enforcement agencies. It is too early to discuss the venue of such a trial, he added.
