The number of victims of snowfall in Japan reached 45 people, another 540 people were injured. This follows from the statistics of the Fire and Rescue Department of Japan, published on February 7 on the agency's website.

It is noted that the dead were from 10 prefectures of Japan — Niigata (17 deaths), Akita (eight), Hokkaido, Yamagate and Aomori (five each), Nagano, Shimane, Iwate, Fukui and Kyoto (one each).

Among the injured, 187 Japanese residents suffered serious injuries and 353 minor injuries.

On February 4, 35 Japanese residents were reported dead due to heavy snowfall. According to the agency, 12 deaths were reported in Niigata Prefecture, a rice-growing region in northern Japan, and among the dead was a man in his late 50s who was found unconscious on the roof of his home in the city of Uonuma.
