The body parts of the deceased were sold as part of a criminal scheme in St. Petersburg to Anabios, a company engaged in thanatopractics, the pre-funeral restoration of bodies. This was announced on February 6 by a source of Izvestia.

The owners of the company paid the head of the pathology department of the Alexander Hospital at least 500 thousand rubles for unhindered access to the morgue. As a result of this access, they could separate the body parts necessary for their studies.
