- The Russian national track cycling team met in Vnukovo after the European Championship
The Russian national track cycling team was met at Vnukovo airport after the European Championships in the Turkish city of Konya. Footage from the athletes' meeting place is published by Izvestia on February 6.
The gold medalist of the competition, Alina Lysenko, spoke about her impressions of the completion of the European Championship, and also announced her next race.
"I was glad, I thanked everyone who helped me with the preparation, who worked with me. Basically it's a team, it's my coach, my parents. <...> This victory would not have happened without them, so I was glad. <...> I have no time to relax — we are moving on," said the athlete.
The European Championship in Konya was held from 1 to 5 February. The Russian national team was represented in a neutral status and won six medals — two gold, one silver and three bronze.
The day before, cyclist Lysenko became the European champion, having won the keirin on the last day of the competition in Konya, Turkey. In the final race, the athlete was able to beat her main rivals. Thus, French Matilda Gros won silver, and German Lia Sophie Friedrich won bronze.
In addition, Russian cyclist Lev Gonov reached the final of the European Track Championships in the individual pursuit on February 3. It is noted that he showed a result of 4 min 2.281 s, setting a new Russian record.
