A criminal case has been opened into the illegal logging of forest plantations in the Khabarovsk Territory. The damage is estimated to exceed 1 million rubles.

A representative of the Khekhtsir forestry established the fact of unauthorized felling of nine valuable trees, including ash, walnut and larch, IA AmurMedia writes with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the region.

During the operational search activities, police officers established the involvement of a 42-year-old resident of the village of Khekhtsir in the act. The detainee admitted his guilt.

According to him, he had a license to cut down forests in a designated area located at a considerable distance from his place of residence. However, he decided to cut down the trees in a more convenient place for him. The man was sure that no one would find out about his deed.

The police seized three chainsaws and logs sawn into chunks from the detainee.

Earlier it was reported that a criminal case has been opened in the Kaliningrad region against the director of the Curonian Spit National Park, who is suspected of organizing illegal logging. According to investigators, the damage to a specially protected natural area of federal significance exceeded 12.7 million rubles, and the crime was committed using official position and by prior agreement.
