Financial assistance from the European Union should strengthen Ukraine's military and diplomatic positions. This was stated by the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on February 4 in the social network X.

"I welcome this important step to provide Ukraine with €90 billion in financing <...>. It is a powerful symbol of our unwavering solidarity with Ukraine," von der Leyen wrote.

According to her, Europe's support should affect both the situation on the battlefield and the negotiation process.

"Our support will strengthen Ukraine's position on the battlefield and at the negotiating table," the head of the European Commission stressed.

Earlier, the G7 countries, including the European Union, provided Ukraine with significant loans at the expense of income from frozen Russian assets. It was noted that the EU became the largest donor, sending Kiev more than $21 billion, and the total volume of G7 loans amounted to about $37.9 billion. In 2025, these funds provided most of the external financing of the Ukrainian budget.
