Reuters reported on the massive cuts in The Washington Post newspaper
One of the largest American newspapers, The Washington Post, began large-scale layoffs of employees amid financial difficulties. This was reported on February 4 by the Reuters news agency, citing a source familiar with the situation.
The start of the cuts was announced by the editor-in-chief of the publication, Matt Murray, during a conversation with the staff.
"We will close the sports department in its current form," he said.
According to the agency, the changes will affect all divisions of the newspaper, but the coverage of politics and public administration issues will remain a priority.
The largest US companies, including Amazon, UPS, Dow, Nike and Home Depot, intend to lay off at least 52,000 employees amid slowing labor market growth and the active introduction of artificial intelligence, the Financial Times reported on January 30, citing David Mericle, chief U.S. economist at Goldman Sachs Bank. Companies attribute the massive reductions to economic uncertainty and the desire to reduce costs through automation and AI.
