Washington's willingness to negotiate with Tehran does not mean a change in the US position and is not a concession to the Iranian side. This was announced on February 4 by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a press conference.

"The President [of the United States Donald] Trump is ready to meet and interact with everyone in the world. We do not consider the meetings as a concession," Rubio said, commenting on the possibility of face-to-face US-Iranian talks.

He stressed that openness to dialogue is the fundamental position of the American leader.

"Our willingness to sit down [at the negotiating table] and listen to any opponent, any opponent, ally. The president is always open to this," the US Secretary of State said.

Earlier that day, Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported on the social network X that the US presidential administration had agreed to hold talks with Iran in Oman, which were scheduled for February 6. According to him, the meeting was postponed from Turkey at the request of the Iranian side. The possible participation of representatives of Arab and Muslim countries was also discussed.

Later, Axios, citing American officials, reported that the talks were canceled due to disagreements on location and format, but Washington allowed the possibility of holding them in the coming weeks when returning to the original terms.
