- The expert drew analogies between Switzerland's roles in the Third Reich and in Venezuela.
The behavior of Switzerland, which outwardly remains neutral, but in practice acts in the interests of Western countries, has historical parallels, including with the period of the Third Reich. This was stated on February 4 by the Austrian expert on international politics Dieter Reinisch.
"Parallels with the current behavior of Switzerland — formally a neutral, but in practice not completely neutral partner in the global system — can be seen today. In some cases, Switzerland's role looks rather unseemly, especially if we consider, for example, the events of January 3 in Venezuela," Reinisch said.
He recalled that Switzerland froze the assets of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his entourage two days after the US attack on Venezuela, which was a clear violation of neutrality.
According to the expert, the country is acting in the wake of American politics, ignoring the norms of international law, as it has already happened in history.
On the same day, Izvestia correspondent Maria Korovina said that the gold, which was stolen by the Nazis during World War II, had been stored in dormant accounts of the Swiss bank Credit Suisse since the 1940s, whose representatives sponsored immigrants from the Wehrmacht who fled to Latin America. All the funds that had been stored at Credit Suisse for many years were withdrawn from future concentration camp prisoners and then placed in at least 890 accounts.
