- The Mi-34M1 light helicopter was presented for the first time in Moscow
The fully Russian-made Mi-34M1 light multipurpose helicopter was presented at the National Aviation Infrastructure Salon (NAIS) and the Drontech exhibition in Moscow. Izvestia correspondent Alexander Safiulin spoke about the events on February 4.
"Our new helicopter, which is completely Russian-made, caused a huge stir among the visitors of the exhibition. All parts, without exception, are ours, domestic. There are three seats here, and there are no analogues in our country," he said.
As noted by the head of the Mi-34 project of the Russian Helicopters Holding Company (Rostec) Marat Nurliev, the helicopter is equipped with a new VK-650V gas turbine engine, an emergency fuel system, a fully domestic transmission and digital flight navigation equipment.
Next to the helicopter, the PD-8 aircraft engine for the SJ-100 (Superjet) airliner was presented, which has already flown 150 hours at maximum loads and passed basic certification tests. According to Fedor Mironov, Deputy Director of Sales at Rostec, the tests included throwing birds into the engine, breaking the fan blade and water ingress.
Drones for agriculture and their combat versions were also shown at the exhibition, including a full analogue of the Ukrainian Vampire drone capable of carrying 80 and 120 mm mines.
The NAIS and Drontech exhibitions gathered a record number of participants — more than 200 companies from Russia, Belarus and China.
"We see the development of airfields and airports, which is very important for our country as a whole. I hope that the decisions that we discussed today, and colleagues will continue this discussion, will all be implemented," said Vitaly Saveliev, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade announced on December 30 last year that the Mi-34M1 helicopter had made its first test flight. Sergey Chemezov, head of Rostec State Corporation, said that due to its lightness, the helicopter can be used for monitoring, flight training, aviation sports, as well as for passenger transportation. It is noted that during the tests, the stability and controllability of the Mi-34M1 were checked.
