Billions stolen by Nazis found in dormant accounts at Credit Suisse bank
The gold, which was stolen by the Nazis during World War II, had been stored in dormant accounts of the Swiss Credit Suisse bank since the 1940s, whose representatives sponsored immigrants from the Wehrmacht who fled to Latin America. This was reported on February 4 by Izvestia correspondent Maria Korovina.
It is emphasized that as part of the investigation launched by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which was conducted jointly with the current management of this financial institution, a report was compiled and sent to the US Senate for review.
"Previous attempts to investigate the role of the Swiss bank have been significant but incomplete. Nazi—linked accounts, shell corporations, and financial networks that helped the Nazis hide their criminal proceeds and evade justice were not affected," said Abraham Cooper, Deputy Dean and director of the Global Social Action Program at the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
All these funds, which had been stored at Credit Suisse for many years, were seized from future concentration camp prisoners and then placed in at least 890 accounts. From there, lawyer and human rights activist Neil Barofsky added, bribes were given to French and Swiss officials to help "clear the way" for Nazi war criminals to live in "luxury and prosperity in Argentina."
Senator from Iowa Chuck Grassley said that despite the difficulties created by the investigators in blocking certain information, the group managed to uncover over 100 new accounts that belonged to the Nazis.
"Switzerland has been buying up the gold of the Third Reich in significant amounts. If any financial resources that were stolen from other people during that period are found today, then, of course, they should be returned to their rightful owners," said Gunnar Lindeman, a member of the Alternative for Germany party.
The final point in the investigation will be set in the summer, and the final report will be submitted at the end of the year.
Portal Dziennik.pl On November 14, 2025, it was reported that Polish researchers had discovered a part of the so-called "golden train" belonging to the Nazis since World War II. It was noted that after making a discovery in the forest area, a group of scientists from Lower Silesia requested permission to conduct further exploration in this area.
