The search of the Paris office of the social network X is a political attack. This opinion was expressed on February 3 by the American billionaire and owner of the social network Elon Musk.

"This is a political attack," he wrote on Twitter.

Musk responded accordingly to a message from the official account of the social network's global government relations team, which claimed that the search was conducted on the same day "in connection with a politicized criminal investigation into alleged manipulation of algorithms and allegedly fraudulent data extraction."

Representatives of X expressed surprise and disappointment at this step, noting that the searches were an ostentatious action aimed at achieving illegal political goals.

"The Paris prosecutor's office is clearly trying to put pressure on X's top leadership in the United States by prosecuting our French unit and employees who are not the target of this investigation," the statement said.

Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, called France an unfree country on February 3 after searches of X's offices. He noted that France is the only country in the world that criminalizes social networks that provide users with a certain degree of freedom. He cited Telegram, X, and TikTok as examples.

On the same day, the French prosecutor's office began conducting searches in the offices of X. It was noted that the searches were conducted together with employees of the National Cyber Division and Interpol.
