The number of crimes in Moscow in 2025 decreased by almost 8%, while their detection rate increased. This was announced on February 3 by the prosecutor of the capital Maxim Zhuk at an expanded meeting of the board of the department.

"The downward trend in the number of crimes committed in the capital has continued — their number has decreased by 7.9% (120,216), the detection rate has increased, and the registration of certain types of crimes has decreased," he is quoted as saying on the official website of the Moscow Prosecutor's office.

According to Zhuk, the number of thefts decreased (by 16.9%, including apartment thefts — by 28.2%), robberies (by 9.2%), fraud (by 15.1%). Crimes involving the use of IT technologies decreased by 14%, and street crime decreased by almost 10%.

The prosecutor instructed his subordinates to strengthen supervision and respond to every detected violation, stressing that the trust of citizens must be justified.

Earlier, on January 23, the prosecutor's office drew up a portrait of the average criminal in Moscow. It was noted that middle-aged male visitors who do not have a permanent source of income make up the majority of criminals who committed offenses in Moscow in 2025. The majority of criminals (53.2%) are between the ages of 30 and 49. Men predominate among them — more than 25 thousand.
