Putin spoke at a meeting on economic issues. The main thing
On February 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin held the first meeting on economic issues this year. The main topics for discussion were the preliminary results of 2025 and the tasks to accelerate economic growth. The main theses of the Russian leader are in the material of Izvestia.
About the results of 2025
Opening the meeting, Putin suggested analyzing the results of the domestic economy over the past year and discussing mechanisms for achieving goals in this area. He noted that by the end of 2025, Russia's GDP had increased by 1%.
The Russian President pointed out that this slowdown in growth was expected and even man-made, as it is associated with targeted actions to reduce inflation. If in 2024 the price increase was 9.5%, then by the end of last year the figure was reduced to 5.6%. At the beginning of 2026, inflation accelerated slightly, reaching 6.4% in annual terms, which, according to Putin, is due, among other things, to the reconfiguration of the tax system.
On the challenges of accelerating growth
The Russian leader recalled the tasks that were set for the government and the Central Bank at the meeting of the Council for Strategic Development in December. The main goal is to restore economic growth, improve the business climate and increase investment activity with an emphasis on increasing labor productivity.
Putin stressed that the relevant measures are included in the plan for structural changes in the economy until 2030, approved by the government at the end of last year. The President demanded that it be carried out rhythmically so that the first significant results in the form of accelerated growth and lower inflation would be noticeable this year.
On the priority of labor productivity
The head of state paid special attention to the issue of increasing labor productivity as a priority task in the context of a shortage of personnel. He pointed out the need for more active implementation of automated systems, industrial robots, digital platforms and solutions in the field of artificial intelligence.
The President also instructed to pay increased attention to improving the employment structure in the economy, making it more efficient by creating modern, well-paid jobs in high-productivity sectors. This is important for both current specialists and future graduates. According to Putin, this is necessary to ensure a new level of high-quality, intensive development of the economy and the country as a whole.
