- The United States has announced the risk of espionage through Chinese electronic cigarettes
A group of Republican senators from the United States expressed concern that Chinese electronic cigarettes could be used for espionage and money laundering. This was reported on February 3 by Fox News.
"These devices are capable of initiating data leaks or malware infection, as well as gaining access to and collecting confidential user data. Given the close relationship between Chinese industry and government intelligence services, the use of these devices raises serious concerns," the channel quotes an excerpt from the letter from the Republicans.
The senators pointed out that so-called "smart" vapes can connect to mobile phones and collect user data. In 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the seizure of approximately $90 million worth of vaping products from China.
On October 14, it was reported that the European Union plans to ban filtered cigarettes and electronic tobacco products. It was clarified that in Germany 95% of cigarettes have filters, so such regulation may actually mean a ban on cigarettes.
