- Reuters reported on the purchases of air defense systems by Sweden and Denmark for Ukraine for $ 290 million.
Sweden and Denmark will jointly purchase and supply Ukraine with $290 million worth of air defense systems. This was reported on February 3 by the Reuters news agency, citing statements by the Scandinavian defense ministers.
"Sweden and Denmark will jointly purchase and supply Ukraine with air defense systems worth 2.6 billion Swedish kronor ($290 million)," Swedish Defense Minister Pal Johnson said in a statement.
It is specified that Sweden will allocate 2.1 billion crowns ($ 235 million) for the purchase of Tridon anti-aircraft missile systems, and Denmark — about 500 million crowns (about $ 5.2 million).
The head of the Danish Ministry of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, noted that the purchase of the complexes not only provides Ukraine with additional material resources on the line of combat contact, but also strengthens Danish production facilities in Sweden.
The American military publication The War Zone reported on January 20 that Denmark had completely decommissioned the F-16 fighter jets and would transfer them to Ukraine. According to the newspaper, some of the cars have already been sold to Argentina, and the other will be transferred to Kiev as part of an earlier agreement.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Steenergaard said last November that Scandinavian countries spend the most on supporting Ukraine among NATO members. According to her, this is unreasonable and unfair, especially in conditions when other states do not show similar activity.
