In Dagestan, a kindergarten where 10 children were poisoned by carbon monoxide turned out to be connected to the gas network illegally. This was announced on February 2 by the Ministry of Energy of the region.

"A case of carbon monoxide poisoning involving children has been recorded in the Karabudakhkent district. The specialists of the gas company and the supervisory authorities immediately went to the scene of the incident to conduct an inspection. During the survey, it was established that the kindergarten building was illegally connected to the gas pipeline — there was no contract for the supply of gas," Dagestan's Minister of Energy and Tariffs Marat Shikhaliev said in his Telegram channel.

According to preliminary data, the cause of the poisoning was a heating device connected to the gas system through a water hose, which is a gross violation of safety regulations.

Earlier that day, it was reported that the department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan had opened a criminal case into poisoning children, and the prosecutor's office had organized an inspection. The Ministry of Health of the region noted that the condition of the victims does not cause concern.
