An investigation into the case of a missing nine-year-old boy has been completed in St. Petersburg. A suspect in the abduction of a child was detained in the Pskov region while trying to escape. Initially, the man refused to testify, but during the interrogation he confessed to killing the child, the 78 TV channel reported. The details of the incident are in the Izvestia article.

Mysterious disappearance: What happened

The disappearance occurred on Friday, January 30th. Nine-year-old Pavel Tifitulin left his house on Krasnoselskoye Highway in St. Petersburg at about 14:00 and did not return. The boy told his parents that he was going to take a walk in the Gorki area on Kolobanovskaya Street, and then stop at a hypermarket on the Tallinn highway.

It was in the area of the shopping center that the child was last seen. At about 17:00, Pavel was caught in the lens of a surveillance camera in a phone accessories store. After that, his tracks are lost.

On the day of the disappearance, the boy was wearing a black winter jacket with red inserts, a black hat, a beige scarf and dark blue trousers. He spent the night outside the house, despite the fact that the air temperature in St. Petersburg dropped to -18 degrees.

Dozens of volunteers and caring local residents were involved in the search for the child. An additional concern was that, according to Alexey, a neighbor of the family, Pavel often worked part—time near that very hypermarket with friends and brothers - the children washed the headlights and windows of cars. It is assumed that the backpack, which was with the boy at the time of the disappearance, could contain accessories for this side job, and therefore special attention was paid to studying the recordings of surveillance cameras in the area of the store.

When the suspect was detained

On Monday, February 2, law enforcement agencies detained a suspect in the abduction of nine-year-old Pavel Tifitulin. It turned out to be 39-year-old Pyotr Zhilkin. The man was captured on the territory of the Pskov region while trying to escape.

After the arrest, the suspect initially refused to testify, but during the interrogation confessed to the crime. According to him, the boy was killed, after which he drowned the body, the 78 TV channel reports. Currently, task forces have left for the alleged crime area to conduct search activities and establish the location of the child's body.

The investigation also restored the alleged route of the abducted schoolboy. At about 16:00, Pavel was in the area of the Lenta hypermarket on the Tallinn highway, where, according to investigators, the suspect took him away. About 20 minutes later, a Toyota car belonging to a man was captured by surveillance cameras on Krasnoselskoye Highway. Then the car left the main highway and presumably headed towards the forest area. It is in this area that search operations are currently underway.

During the search, pornographic materials involving minors were found on the detainee's computer. According to preliminary information, the investigation is considering the possibility that the abducted child could have been blackmailing the suspect. It was also established that Zhilkin and the boy had known each other before. All the circumstances of the incident are now being investigated by the investigation.

The crime scene

The identity of 39-year-old Pyotr Zhilkin was established by the recordings of surveillance cameras in the supermarket where he was shopping. After the arrest, the man refused to testify for a long time, referring to Article 51 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

The suspect allegedly drowned the child in the village of Lawn, located about 162 kilometers from St. Petersburg, near the village of Yalgelevo.

The investigative task force went there with the suspect to search for the child's body.

Dozens of volunteers came to the headquarters of the Lisa Alert organization in the village to help in the search.

What punishment does the suspect face?

If the existing version of the investigation is confirmed, the detainee may face the most severe punishment. According to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the murder of a minor associated with abduction is considered a particularly serious crime.

In particular, we may be talking about paragraph "b" of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Murder of a minor"), as well as Article 126 of the Criminal Code ("Kidnapping"). The totality of these crimes provides for punishment up to life imprisonment. An alternative sanction may be a long term of imprisonment — from 8 to 20 years — with subsequent restriction of freedom.

In addition, during the investigation, separate legal assessments may be given to the materials seized during the search of the suspect. If the fact of storing prohibited content involving minors is confirmed, the investigation has the right to initiate an additional criminal case, including articles related to crimes against the sexual integrity of children. These episodes are also classified as particularly serious and can significantly affect the final punishment.

The final qualification of the suspect's actions will be given after all investigative actions are completed, examinations are carried out and the case is brought to court.
