New materials on the "Epstein case" have already ruined the careers of several European politicians. In Slovakia, Advisor to Prime Minister Robert Fico resigned, and British Lord Peter Mandelson resigned as ambassador to the United States and the Labor Party. At the same time, financier Jeffrey Epstein could actively communicate with other prominent officials at European social events. In the materials on his case, Izvestia found more than 100 references to Boris Johnson and over 50 to Rishi Sunak and Cyrus Starmer. About how European politicians contacted Epstein and why Trump was under attack again, see the Izvestia article.

Which European politician was featured in the "Epstein files"

The Jeffrey Epstein case continues to gain momentum. The world media once again flooded with sharp headlines after the publication by the US Department of Justice on January 30 of about 3 million more pages of files from the criminal case of the late financier. Back in 2008, he was accused of raping minors and involving them in prostitution — to a greater extent, the scandal affected high-ranking American politicians and celebrities, but now it has become clear that he significantly damaged the reputation of Europeans.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has already accepted the resignation of his adviser Miroslav Lajcak, who was mentioned in correspondence with Epstein. At first, Lajcak denied everything, but later decided to leave in order to avoid political pressure on the government. The most severe consequences also affected two prominent Britons, captured in the published photographs of the criminal case.

The first is Andrew, who was expelled from the royal family: in October 2025, he lost all titles, including the title of Duke of York, and the status of prince. The second is former British Ambassador to the United States and former European Commissioner for Trade Peter Mandelson. In the footage, he is in his underwear next to a girl in a bathrobe, and Mandelson calls Epstein his best friend in correspondence. As a result, he was forced to leave the ranks of the ruling Labor Party, essentially becoming a political corpse.

Despite the fact that Epstein was not officially involved in politics, he, apparently, actively communicated with senior European officials at social events. As suggested by artificial intelligence, these could be international conferences, charity gala dinners, events of educational initiatives and foundations sponsored by the financier. As Izvestia found out, in the published materials on the "Epstein case" there are more than 100 mentions of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and over 50 of another former and current heads of government (Rishi Sunak and Kira Starmer, respectively). Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission in 2004-2014, and Jens Stoltenberg, former NATO Secretary General, were mentioned at least seven times in the case.

It is important to understand that the fact of mentioning any politician in the "Epstein case" does not indicate his involvement in the sexual crimes of which the financier was accused. For example, it became known earlier that the name of French President Emmanuel Macron appears in the case more than 200 times, but there is no evidence of his personal acquaintance with Epstein.

Epistolary mentions of certain politicians in the case mean nothing unless convincing evidence is found — they could be revealing photographs, as was the case with ex-Prince Andrew and Peter Mandelson, American scholar Malek Dudakov notes in a conversation with Izvestia.

— It hit them very hard. The same Macron is unlikely to resign as president just because of verbal references, the political scientist believes.

Nevertheless, not all the documents on the "Epstein case" have been published yet. It is possible that new surprises await the world community ahead.

Does the "Epstein case" affect Trump's rating

Perhaps most of all, the society was stirred up by the fact that the new documents contain a lot of words about US President Donald Trump, who was a close friend of Epstein until the early 2000s. The New York Times found more than 5,300 files containing over 38,000 mentions of Trump and his wife Melania, the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and other related words and phrases in the latest batch of emails, government documents, videos and other evidence. However, none of these files contain direct correspondence between the head of the White House and the businessman. The new batch of documents cites unsubstantiated accusations against Trump, who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl, but there is no other evidence. It is also important that Trump broke off relations with Epstein quite early, and also testified to the police against him, so together such a story does not threaten him with serious consequences, Malek Dudakov believes.

— I don't think this will be any reason to impeach Trump. We did not see anything so explosive in these documents that could bury his presidency. But this story will definitely haunt him and negatively affect his ratings, the expert is sure.

The published materials have also damaged the reputation of Trump's opponents. In particular, Epstein's letters suddenly revealed the mother of the current mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani. As a Hollywood producer, she has often collaborated with the financier in the past. There was even a meme in social networks and the media claiming that Zohran was the illegitimate son of a billionaire. Despite all the absurdity, the story may affect the future fate of the politician. Immediately after his election, his ratings reached a record 60%, but now they will definitely decline, including due to domestic political problems, Dudakov predicts.

The scandal has also affected prominent Democratic donors. The new materials also revealed that Microsoft founder Bill Gates allegedly contracted venereal disease from some "Russian girls." Experts are confident that no matter how many more documents the Justice Department publishes, the Democrats will claim that the files with the most explosive revelations were classified and will never be made public. Thus, for them, this will become an element of campaigning ahead of the upcoming congressional elections this fall, when not only the fate of the majority in the upper and lower chambers will be decided, but also the political course of the United States will be determined to some extent.
