Stand-up comedian Artemy Ostanin (listed as a terrorist and extremist by Rosfinmonitoring) asked the court to acquit him. This was reported on February 2 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

In his last statement, Ostanin stated that he was being persecuted for something he had not committed, and expressed hope for a fair court decision.

During the debate, he stressed the absence of corpus delicti under Article 282 of the Criminal Code ("Incitement to hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity") and pointed out that the victims had not filed civil lawsuits.

The criminal case was sent to court at the end of December 2025. Before that, in June, Rosfinmonitoring added Ostanin to the register of terrorists and extremists. The defense repeatedly petitioned to change the measure of restraint from detention to house arrest, citing the state of health, but these requests were rejected by the court.

On December 27 last year, the Meshchanskaya interdistrict prosecutor's office approved the indictment against Ostanin. His detention while trying to leave Russia became known on March 18.

Later, on January 12, the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow extended the term of detention of the stand-up comedian, he will stay in jail until June 25. In addition, his bank accounts were blocked as part of the criminal prosecution.
