The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced a decrease in the Russian car market by 11%

By the end of January 2026, 91.4 thousand new cars (under the age of three) were sold in Russia, which is 11% less than in January last year. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, which was received by Izvestia on February 2.

The market volume in the passenger car segment was 81.9 thousand units (-7% compared to January 2025), in the light commercial vehicle segment — 5633 units (-28%), trucks — 3248 units (-39%), buses — 597 units (-25%). Compared to December last year, sales of passenger cars decreased by 39%, LCVs — by 51%, trucks — by 49%, and buses — by 77% (-41% in all four segments).

Despite the overall decline, the domestic car market continues to show growth — sales volumes exceeded 54 thousand units, which is 3% more than in January last year. Sales of new imported cars, in turn, amounted to about 37 thousand units, which is 25% less year-on-year.

In addition, 990 new electric vehicles were sold at the beginning of this year, of which the share of those manufactured in the Russian Federation was 30% compared to 21% in January last year. The Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the share of Russian equipment in January 2026 increased by 8 percentage points compared to the same period last year and reached 60%.

Earlier, on January 5, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reported that by the end of last year, almost 1.496 million new cars were sold in Russia (up to three years). This is 19% lower than the results of 2024, the ministry said. Sales of new passenger cars decreased by 15% to 1,317 million units.
