Likhachev called Russia a pioneer in the creation of a new generation of nuclear energy

Russia has become a pioneer in the creation of a new generation of nuclear energy. This was announced on February 2 by Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, at the award ceremony for the company's leading scientists and young researchers in the nuclear industry.

"You and I have walked this path together since the end to create our own national project, and this is not only a mechanism for state financing of one or another of our areas. <...> The attention of the whole planet is really focused on this in the truest sense of the word. That is, we are not only ideologists and legislators, we are also pioneers of this new generation," Likhachev said.

He also recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin, at the Global Atomic Forum, stated the need to develop a new generation of nuclear energy in Russia. Then the president said that by 2030, Russia would launch the world's first nuclear power system with a closed fuel cycle as part of the national Breakthrough project.

Likhachev called the development in this area the most important in the Russian nuclear industry and the primary task of the Rosatom state Corporation for the next 2-3 years.

In addition, Likhachev awarded the laureates from the Kurchatov Institute with the government Prize for the development and implementation of a high-capacity NPP project. The Institute also received an award for the development and introduction into mass production of fuel elements for the active zones of transport reactors, floating power units and low-power nuclear power plants.
