Durov accused Zuckerberg of secretly mocking WhatsApp users
Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of WhatsApp (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation), secretly laughs at those who believe his public statements, including about encryption of correspondence. This was announced on February 2 by Telegram founder Pavel Durov.
Durov posted a screenshot of the correspondence, where a user with a photo of Mark Zuckerberg offers the interlocutor information about someone from Harvard, claiming that he has thousands of letters, images and addresses that people have entrusted to him, and calling them fools.
"The only thing that has changed since this conversation is the scale. Today, the owner of WhatsApp is secretly laughing not at 4 thousand, but at 4 billion "fools" who believe his statements," wrote the founder of Telegram on the social network X (ex. Twitter), referring to the assurances of protecting the privacy of users.
The Guardian newspaper reported on January 31 that the US authorities are investigating allegations that Meta (the company's activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) "has access to almost all private correspondence" on its WhatsApp platform.
On January 26, Durov pointed out many possibilities for attacking WhatsApp. The next day, American entrepreneur Elon Musk agreed with Durov's opinion that WhatsApp is insecure and has many vulnerabilities.
On January 25, Evgeny Masharov, a member of the commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for the public examination of draft laws and other regulations, expressed the opinion that Meta violated user confidentiality. According to him, this was confirmed by lawsuits from people from different countries.
