On Monday, February 2, warning strikes will be held across Germany at municipal transport companies, during which public transport will be suspended in the country's largest cities and communities. This was reported on February 1 by Der Spiegel magazine with reference to the Ver.di trade union.

According to the newspaper, the strikes serve as a measure of pressure on the authorities on the issue of wages. Protest actions will be held in Bavaria (Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, Bamberg, Passau, Landshut and Schweinfurt, as well as in the south-west of the country in the cities of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Heilbronn, Freiburg, Baden-Baden, Esslingen and Konstanz.

In the north of the country, in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, Ver.di called for strikes by bus drivers in Kiel, Lübeck, Neumunster and Flensburg.

In the west, in Saxony-Anhalt, according to the union, strikes will affect the movement of buses and trams in the cities of Halle and Magdeburg. Transport companies from all major cities of North Rhine-Westphalia — Cologne, Dusseldorf, Duisburg, Dortmund and Bielefeld - also joined the campaign.

On the eastern side of Germany, the strikes will affect transport companies in Erfurt, Jena, Gera, Gotha, Weimar and a number of administrative districts. In Saxony, the strike will affect the largest cities of Chemnitz, Dresden, Leipzig and Zwickau.

In the central part of the country, in Hesse, Ver.di expects strikes by employees of transport companies in Frankfurt am Main, Kassel, Wiesbaden, Giessen and Marburg. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Brandenburg, strikes will affect transport companies in almost all regions of the land.

The only federal state where strikes are not planned is Lower Saxony.

According to the newspaper, Deutsche Bahn trains will run without restrictions. Thus, passengers will be able to transfer to city trains operated by the concern in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne, Nuremberg and in a number of regions. The strikes will not affect long-distance and regional trains either.

It is expected that a total of about 100,000 employees of their 150 transport enterprises will participate in the strikes.

The Tagesschau newspaper reported on January 30 that Ver.di called on employees of municipal transport companies to go on strike. The authors clarified that the union is calling for strikes in order to put pressure on employers in the next round of negotiations on higher bonuses and better working conditions for all transportation workers in Germany.
