Thai police have detained two Russian citizens in the case of the murder of a Russian citizen.

Two Russian citizens have been arrested in Thailand on suspicion of the premeditated murder of a compatriot, Mikhail Yemelyanov, who has been missing since January 7. This was reported on February 1 by the Thai newspaper Khaosod, citing the police of the Thai province of Chonburi.

"The Pattaya Provincial Court has issued an arrest warrant for suspects in a premeditated murder case. They are accused of covert complicity in a crime, as well as hiding, moving and destroying a body in order to conceal the fact of death itself or its true causes," the publication clarifies.

The suspects are 35‑year-old Yaroslav Demidov and 38‑year-old Dmitry Maskalev: the investigation found that they had been in contact with the victim before her disappearance and tried to hide the traces of the crime.

In the vicinity of Pattaya, police found the remains, which, as it turned out, belong to Yemelyanov.

According to law enforcement officials, a 30‑year-old Russian man was killed, and his body was dismembered and packed in black plastic bags and clothes similar to the one he was wearing on the day of his disappearance. The body was identified by the deceased's mother, Olga Lazarenko, who arrived in Thailand.

Yemelyanov had been living in the kingdom for the past two years and, before disappearing, warned his mother that he was going to meet with two Russians, while noting that the meeting could be potentially dangerous for him. After his disappearance, Lazarenko filed a complaint with the Pattaya City Police Station.

The suspects are currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

On the same day, it became known that Russian Mikhail Yemelyanov, who went missing in the Thai resort city of Pattaya in early January, was found dead.
