Cambodian authorities have detained 2,044 foreigners in a fraudulent online center
The Cambodian authorities conducted a large‑scale raid on a large fraudulent call center located on the territory of a casino in the city of Bavet in the province of Svairieng, and detained 2,044 foreign suspects. This was reported on February 1 by the Cambodian edition of the Khmer Times.
The operation began on the morning of January 31, 2026, with the participation of more than 700 specialized police officers who stopped the activities of an online fraud center on the territory of the Van Cheung Casino complex, which includes 22 buildings.
According to the Khmer Times, among the detainees were citizens of China (about 1,792 people), Vietnam (177), Myanmar (179), as well as citizens of Nepal, India, Taiwan, Laos, Malaysia and Mexico.
The raid was part of an increasing effort by Cambodian law enforcement agencies to combat international online fraud networks that organize criminal schemes, including telephone and Internet scams, with victims around the world.
On January 30, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned about a new scheme of fraudsters under the guise of delivery. According to the police, scammers call citizens, informing them about a paid order that needs to be confirmed. After that, an SMS with a code from a bank or service is sent to the victim's phone, which the scammers ask to name under the pretext of "reconciliation".
