US federal judge Fred Bieri ordered the release of five-year-old boy Liam Conejo Ramos and his father Adrian Conejo Arias from the custody of the Immigration Service (ICE), declaring their removal from the suburbs of Minneapolis unconstitutional. This was reported by The New York Times.

The child and his father had previously been taken to an immigration detention center near San Antonio. As the lawyers explained, Conejo Arias, a native of Ecuador, entered the country legally in accordance with American asylum rules. The US Department of Homeland Security accused him of illegally entering the country in December 2024.

The administration of US President Donald Trump said that the boy was not the target of persecution, but that Conejo Arias asked his son to stay with him after he tried to hide from immigration officers.

Earlier, a photo of Liam in a blue winter hat and carrying a backpack in the form of Spider-Man, in the custody of immigration officers, caused a wave of outrage across the country.

CNN reported on January 31 that protests by U.S. residents against the activities of ICE have spread to all corners of the country. It was noted that protests in Minnesota have been going on for the second week due to the murders of two residents by federal agents. At the same time, on January 30, tables were empty in restaurants across the country before the weekend, and shop windows were closed due to strikes.
