Russians who work according to a five-day schedule expect only 19 working days in February, the remaining nine days will be days off. This was announced on February 1 by Alexander Yuzhalin, head of the SuperJob legal practice.

"In total, there will be 19 working days and nine days off in February 2026," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The expert explained that Russians will have a rest during one of the five-day working weeks on Monday, February 23. As he recalled, this is due to the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day.

Yuzhalin added that those citizens who are involved in enterprises or work in companies where shift work is practiced will rest in accordance with the schedule. So, they may have a working day on the 23rd, in which case, as the expert explained, the employee will receive either double pay for the day or compensation in the form of a substitute rest day.

Yulia Finogenova, Professor of the Department of State and Municipal Finance at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, called the vacation she took in February unprofitable on January 29. According to her, Defender of the Fatherland Day falls on this already short month. So, a person with a salary of 80 thousand rubles will receive a little more than 4.2 thousand rubles for one working day and only 2.7 thousand rubles for a vacation. Having illustrated the difference in payment in this way, she advised writing an application asking for rest time in other months.
