On January 31, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that he had accepted the resignation of his closest adviser, former Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, due to the mention of his name in the files of the case of American financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In November 2025, Euractiv reported that the name of the former Slovak Foreign Minister was found in the documents on the Epstein case. The deputy speaker of the Slovak parliament, Andrei Danko, then called on the Prime Minister to dismiss the adviser.

"Miroslav behaved like a great diplomat. I accept his offer to end the cooperation," he said in a video message posted on Facebook (banned in Russia; owned by Meta Corporation, recognized in Russia as an extremist organization).

Amid allegations of links with the infamous Epstein, American entrepreneur Elon Musk on January 31 announced the need to arrest at least one client of the financier. He clarified that if no one is arrested, it "will only be a show-off and a distraction." The post was later deleted.
