- The Russian Foreign Ministry called the preparation for a clash with Russia the main vector of the EU
The main vector of policy development in the European Union (EU) and NATO countries is aimed at preparing for an allegedly imminent military clash with Russia, for which huge financial resources have already been allocated. This was announced on January 30 by Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko at a press conference at the International Multimedia Press Center "Russia Today".
"If we closely follow the evolution of the strategic doctrines of the EU and NATO, then we can probably say that the main vector is aimed at preparing society, the economy, the military organization, and infrastructure for an 'imminent' military clash with Russia. Huge resources are being allocated for this, and the industrial base is being reformatted," the deputy minister stressed.
Grushko stressed that the strategic documents of the military bloc and the EU countries are becoming more and more hostile, and Russia is openly declared in them as a long-term threat. Moscow cannot ignore such a NATO policy in its defense planning, Grushko noted.
"We are carefully studying [NATO's policy]. We study it not only from the point of view of formulating and building our foreign policy, but above all, planning in the field of defense. Many measures have already been announced. Everyone should be sure that no matter how the situation develops, the defense capability and security of the Russian Federation will be reliably ensured," Grushko said.
Russia should also proceed from the fact that the challenge posed by the Europeans is becoming systemic and long-term, the deputy minister added.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Turkish media on January 29 that Ukraine had become a "pawn" in the geopolitical game of the West, which uses the country to create a threat to the security of the Russian Federation.
Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the Department of European Affairs at the Russian Foreign Ministry, also added that NATO is actually preparing for a possible conflict with Russia. He noted that in the alliance's doctrinal documents, Russia is designated as "the most significant and direct threat to security," and this status remains even in the event of a resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
