A new scheme of telephone fraud has been recorded in Russia, in which attackers pose as couriers of well-known stores. This was announced on January 30 by the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.

According to the police, scammers call citizens, informing them about a paid order that needs to be confirmed. After that, an SMS with a code from a bank or service is sent to the victim's phone, which the scammers ask to name under the pretext of "reconciliation". When asked about the details of the product or the amount of the order, they evade the answers, rush and create a sense of urgency.

"This is a hoax. No real delivery asks for codes from SMS <...> Don't tell anyone the codes — protect your money," the Interior Ministry's Tlegram channel says.

Citizens were advised not to disclose such information, to independently call back to the store using official numbers and to check orders only through their personal account or the application. In case of a code leak, you must immediately change your passwords and block your cards.

Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation provided Russians with instructions on January 23, which prescribe actions in case of accidental transmission of an SMS code to fraudsters. Firstly, in this case, they urged to urgently stop communicating with intruders, secondly, to check access to all important services: e-mail, account on the Gosuslugi portal and banking applications by updating passwords there, and thirdly, if you lose your password, immediately contact customer support, the bank or The police.
