Chery is close to concluding a deal with Jaguar Land Rover to manufacture cars in the UK. This was reported on January 29 by Auto Express magazine, citing its sources.

One of the key topics of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to Beijing will be the automotive industry in Britain and China. At the same time, the possibility of concluding a deal between JLR and Chery is being considered, under which the latter can start manufacturing its cars in the British territory. The move could not only be a welcome boost for the country's struggling automotive industry, but also further strengthen the Chinese manufacturer's position in the British automotive market.

The deal will allow Chery to take advantage of spare capacity at JLR's manufacturing facilities, which will help save jobs and bring additional profits to JLR after the disastrous year 2025, when production was halted for more than five weeks due to a cyberattack.

Chery debuted on the British market in August 2025 and has sold more than 5.5 thousand cars in Britain by the end of the year. This makes its market share larger than even brands such as Alfa Romeo, DS, Genesis and Smart.

The two companies formed a joint venture in 2012 to produce some JLR models in China. Despite declining sales in 2025, China remains JLR's second-largest market outside the United States.

Earlier on the day, it became known that the production of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in the UK in 2025 decreased to the lowest level since 1952. During the year, 764 thousand vehicles were produced in the country.
