The Security Councils of the Russian Federation and Belarus intend to strengthen cooperation on information security. This was reported to Izvestia on January 29 by the press service of the Security Council of the Russian Federation following the results of the Russian-Belarusian interdepartmental consultations on security councils that took place in Moscow.

The consultations were led by Alexei Shevtsov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Gribkov, Assistant Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, and Alexander Neverovsky, Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus.

"During the consultations, we assessed the situation in the international and regional spheres, as well as exchanged views on a wide range of practical issues of Russian-Belarusian cooperation in the field of information security, including strengthening cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries," the press service said.

The parties discussed the implementation of the plan for the implementation of the main directions of Russian-Belarusian cooperation in the field of information security. Taking into account the development of integration processes in the Union State, we agreed to update it in order to strengthen practical cooperation. The meeting also discussed issues of coordinating the positions of Russia and Belarus and promoting approaches to ensuring international information security on various relevant international platforms.

"The consultations confirmed the interested and purposeful nature of the parties' interaction in the interests of forming a secure information space of the Union State," the press service of the Security Council of the Russian Federation concluded.

Alexey Polishchuk, director of the Second CIS Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on January 25 that the authorities of Russia and Belarus were discussing joint defense projects. According to him, such actions are being taken in connection with external threats to the security of the allies.

On January 19, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said that Belarus and Russia are one in terms of defense. He also assured that Moscow and Minsk are ready to jointly defend their interests.
