Snowfall in Moscow has led to an increase in taxi prices by 20-25%
The average taxi fare in Moscow and the Moscow region during heavy snowfall in late January increased by 20-25% compared to the weekdays of the previous week. This was reported to Izvestia on January 29 in the press service of the Yandex Go service.
It is noted that the peak growth rate of up to 30% occurred on the morning of January 28. The main reason for the price increase was a sharp deterioration in the traffic situation.
The snowfall also led to a 25% increase in the average travel time compared to days without precipitation, the company said. In some areas on the outskirts of Moscow and in the Moscow region, travel time increased by one and a half to two times, Yandex Go said.
An additional factor was the increased time spent searching and waiting for a car. On average, it increased by 10-15%, and in some areas it reached 15 minutes. As a result, drivers spent more time completing one order and were less likely to take the next one, the Yandex Go press service noted.
On the morning of January 27, traffic jams on Moscow roads reached 9 points due to snowfall. At the same time, the Hydrometeorological Center predicted heavy snow, snow drifts and icy conditions in Moscow on January 27. It was specified that the air temperature in the capital will range from -6 to -4 degrees during the day, and at night the thermometer will drop to -8.
On January 26, the Department of Transport of the capital urged motorists to abandon trips in Moscow by car on January 27-28 due to snow, and truck drivers should plan their route taking into account weather conditions and familiarize themselves with road sections where climbing difficulties may arise due to the slope.
