Earlier that day, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Kemerovo Region announced the deaths of nine patients at the Prokopiev boarding school in January of this year. It was noted that in each case, a thorough check of the causes of the incident will be carried out with the involvement of all competent authorities.

On January 24, a source from Izvestia reported that 46 people had been hospitalized as a result of an outbreak of influenza A in the Prokopiev boarding school. According to the source, the virus was laboratory confirmed in 16 people, they were taken to Novokuznetsk City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital.
