Georgia has announced no plans to impose sanctions against Russia

Georgia does not plan to impose sanctions against Russia, nor does it plan to send troops to Ukraine. This was announced on January 29 by the chairman of the country's parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

"As we said four years ago that we would not impose bilateral sanctions, we are still saying that. Just as they said that we would not send the military there to fight, so now the state is not going to send military personnel to Ukraine," Papuashvili quotes TASS.

Papuashvili recalled that this policy was the reason for the recall of the Ukrainian ambassador from Tbilisi. He also noted that Georgia welcomes the appointment of a new ambassador by Kiev and hopes that this step marked a rethink by the Ukrainian authorities of hostile rhetoric towards Georgia.

Earlier, on December 16, Mikhail Kalugin, director of the fourth CIS Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Russia was serious about normalizing relations with Georgia on the sole condition that this state would not become a so-called bargaining chip in games against Moscow. He added that despite the lack of diplomatic relations between the two countries, they are united by active ties, which in turn bring them tangible benefits.
