Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka has cancelled measures to tighten travel rules for Russian diplomats prepared by the previous government of the country. This was announced on January 28 by the Internet portal Seznam Zprávy.

According to him, the former Czech government promoted a project throughout the European Union (EU) to tighten checks on Russian diplomats for travel to the countries of the Schengen area. Since January 25, Russian representatives have been required to obtain permission from each country of the agreement and undergo security checks.

"However <...> the Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Matsinka cancelled this measure at the last moment. For Russian diplomats accredited in another EU country, it will be enough to send an email to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the day before to enter the Czech Republic," the publication says.

On January 26, the Netherlands informed the Russian Embassy about new restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats across the EU. It is clarified that the Russian Embassy in The Hague stated that it regards the actions of the European authorities as part of a consistent strategy of exerting pressure and selective application of legal norms.
