Trump has threatened Iraq with the termination of US aid if Nouri al-Maliki returns.
The United States will stop providing assistance to Iraq if former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is re-elected. This was announced on Tuesday evening, January 27, by the American leader Donald Trump.
"I have heard that the great country of Iraq may make a very bad choice by reappointing Nouri al-Maliki as prime minister...> This must not happen again. <...> The United States of America <...> will no longer help Iraq," he wrote on his page on the Truth Social network.
The head of the White House also explained that if the help from his state stops, Baghdad "will have no chance" of success, prosperity or freedom. Nouri al-Malki, who served as Iraqi prime minister from 2006 to 2014, led the country to poverty and chaos, according to Trump.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, taking part in the ceremony of presenting credentials to foreign ambassadors on January 15, said that Russia opposes external interference in the internal affairs of Iraq and Lebanon. He also added that Moscow supports the unity, sovereignty, and independence of these states.
