Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed with the ambassadors of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries ensuring security in the region, as well as the comprehensive development of coordination in the economic, political, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The Russian Foreign Ministry announced this on January 27 following the meeting.
"Tasks have been outlined for the near future, including strengthening foreign policy coordination, increasing cooperation in trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres and in ensuring regional security," the ministry said in a statement on its website.
The participants of the meeting also exchanged views on current international issues and summed up the results for 2025 on cooperation within the framework of Eurasian associations. It is noted that the meeting was also attended by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev and heads of executive bodies of other Eurasian structures.
On December 22, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the expansion of cooperation between the CIS countries in the monetary and financial sphere and stated that the share of national currencies in the calculations of the commonwealth countries exceeds 90%. He also noted that large industrial and infrastructure projects are being implemented with the participation of entrepreneurs from the CIS countries, as well as new Eurasian production and transport chains are being formed.
