RSHB has recorded an increase in Russians' interest in traveling to China
Russians' interest in traveling to China has increased markedly after the simplification of entry into the country. The majority of respondents — 88% — are aware of the introduction of a visa-free regime, and 76% have a desire to visit China after these changes. This is evidenced by the data of the Rosselkhoznadzor (RSHB) study, which was reviewed on January 28 by Izvestia.
According to the survey, China is perceived by Russian tourists as a relatively affordable destination. Almost three quarters of respondents are confident that a week-long trip will cost up to 100,000 rubles per person, another 22% are willing to spend from 100,000 to 200,000 rubles, while only 6% allow higher costs.
When preparing trips abroad, Russians carefully study payment methods. According to the RSHB, 75% of the survey participants plan to pay with UnionPay bank cards in China, 15% plan to use cash yuan, and another 10% plan to use digital payment services common in the country.
The majority of travelers prefer organized trips: 64% are ready to entrust planning to tour operators, while 36% expect to independently build a route and book accommodation and flights. Futuristic megacities became the main goal of a visit to China for 35% of respondents, which turned out to be more popular than beach holidays and excursions to historical monuments, which scored 19 and 18%, respectively. The interest in gastronomic tourism and shopping was lower — 16 and 12%.
Souvenirs also play an important role in travel. Most often, Russians plan to bring symbolic gifts, tea, clothes and accessories, as well as interior items. Unusual products and equipment are less often considered purchases.
On December 4, 2025, the Chinese state-owned Xinhua news agency reported an increased demand from Chinese for flights to Russia. This situation, as specified in the article, is due to the cancellation of the visa regime between the Russian Federation and China and the beginning of the winter tourist season. Then, in addition to Irkutsk, Moscow, Murmansk, St. Petersburg and Vladivostok were among the most popular destinations among Chinese citizens.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on December 2 that the decision on visa-free entry for Chinese citizens to Russia is very important, as it will serve as an impetus for the development of further contacts. He added that the visa-free regime would facilitate mutual travel for Russian and Chinese citizens.
