A Filipino sailor was rescued by the crew of a rescue tugboat in the South China Sea.
In the South China Sea, the crew of the Pacific Fleet rescue tugboat Alatau rescued a Filipino sailor who had been overboard for two days. This was announced on January 26 by the Russian Defense Ministry.
"It is planned that the Filipino citizen will be taken by Russian sailors to Vladivostok, after which he will be assisted in returning to his homeland," the department said in a Telegram channel message.
According to the rescued Filipino, he was working on the deck and fell overboard of tanker S.Grace", of which he was a member of the crew. It is noted that the crew of the tugboat provided the sailor with all necessary medical assistance, and the foreigner's health condition is satisfactory.
On the same day, it became known about the sunken inter-island ferry with more than 350 passengers on board in the Philippines. It was clarified that 215 people were rescued and seven bodies were recovered. The ship was sailing from the port city of Zamboanga to the southern island of Jolo in Sulu province.
Later, the Associated Press reported that the death toll from the ferry crash had risen to 15 people. Rescuers evacuated at least 316 passengers and recovered 15 bodies. The reasons for the incident are unknown.
The Russian Embassy reported that, according to preliminary information, there are no Russians among the victims of the Trisha Kerstin ferry crash. The ministry added that 28 people are missing as a result of the incident.
