Immediately, 42% of Moscow residents surveyed said they were not planning to buy a car in the foreseeable future. This is stated in the results of the <url> financial marketplace research (available from Izvestia) according to a survey of 2.5 thousand Muscovites aged 18-65 who were considering buying a car in the coming year.

They cited the high cost of owning a car, rising parking and maintenance costs, as well as the development of urban transport infrastructure, including the metro, IDC and carsharing services, as the main reasons for refusing to purchase a car.

Another 26% of the respondents reported that they would consider a used car in case of purchase. Most often we are talking about cars between the ages of three and five years. On the contrary, 21% of Muscovites are focused on buying a new car of Chinese brands from authorized dealers. The remaining 11% of the survey participants are considering buying a car from a car from abroad, mainly from neighboring countries.

According to the executive director, "I will choose.According to Yaroslav Badzhurak, these results indicate not so much a redistribution of demand between segments as a general cooling of interest in owning a private car in Moscow.

"The expansion of paid parking zones, high traffic density and alternatives in the form of public transport are increasingly pushing Muscovites away from buying their own car. At the same time, part of the demand is shifting to the used car segment, while part is moving towards officially presented Chinese brands as the most affordable among new cars. These changes are taking place against the background of the high cost of credit resources and the transformation of the urban environment, which reduces dependence on personal transport," said Badjurak.

The day before, it was reported that following the results of the second full working week of 2026, sales of new passenger cars decreased by 19% compared to the previous week, to 18.2 thousand units. This is 11% less than in the fourth week of 2025. Sergey Tselikov, director of Autostat, said that the results of last week give an alarming signal to the car market.
