Soviet Kh-22 missiles, which have recently been used by the Russian Armed Forces during a special military operation, are almost impossible to intercept, Military Watch Magazine (MWM) reports.

The publication recalled that the X-22 missiles, also known as the Storm, were developed more than half a century ago and were first used against energy facilities in Kiev on January 24.

"At least 12 successful arrivals in the city are reported. The Tu-22M3 strategic bombers remain the only carriers of such weapons," the publication says.

MWM also cited statements by the representative of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, Yuri Ignat, who had previously admitted that the air defense systems available to the Ukrainian side were practically incapable of intercepting X-22 missiles. The publication emphasized that, despite the adoption of the missile back in 1962, it still has no analogues in terms of its flight characteristics.

According to the magazine, the high difficulty of intercepting the X-22 is due to a combination of high flight speed, reaching Mach 4.6, and an unpredictable trajectory. At the same time, the publication attributed the outdated guidance system to the disadvantages of the rocket, the main elements of which were developed in the middle of the 20th century.

On the same day, Uraldronzavod announced the use of new Ghoul-18 UAVs with increased payload capacity by the Russian military in the Kupyansky and Konstantinovsky areas of the special operation. It was noted that this type of drone can carry a 10 kg mine for tens of kilometers to destroy fortified dugouts and enemy positions.
