Legendary Formula 1 racer Michael Schumacher, who suffered a severe traumatic brain injury as a result of a skiing accident in 2013, is no longer bedridden, but cannot walk and uses a wheelchair. This was reported by the Daily Mail (DM) newspaper, citing sources.

"At 57, he (Schumacher. — Ed.) cannot walk. Instead, nurses and therapists take him around the mansion in a wheelchair — part of a 24—hour medical suite that costs tens of thousands of pounds a week," the article says.

The publication notes that Schumacher is staying in his mansion in the prestigious Las Brisas area of Mallorca, which is carefully guarded. His family's main place of residence remains their home in the Swiss Gland on the shores of Lake Geneva. The seven—time world champion's social circle is strictly limited - only a few trusted people, including the former head of the Ferrari racing team, Jean Todt, are allowed into the house.

DM writes that Schumacher's condition remains classified at the insistence of his wife Corinna, who seeks to preserve her husband's privacy. According to the newspaper, Schumacher may be aware of what is happening around him, but the extent of his understanding is unknown even to those close to him.

The New York Times newspaper reported in May last year that Michael Schumacher's Ferrari racing car, which he drove at the Formula 1 World Championship in 2001, was sold at RM Sotheby's for $18.17 million. According to the newspaper, this car became the most expensive ever sold at a Formula 1 auction and the fourth most expensive Formula 1 car after three Mercedes cars.
