In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 25 people were killed as a result of an attack by a group supported by the Islamic State (IS, a terrorist group banned in the Russian Federation). This was reported on January 26 by the Associated Press (AP), citing human rights bodies.

"An attack by militants linked to the Islamic State in eastern Congo has claimed the lives of at least 25 people," the publication said.

It is noted that the IG invasion took place on January 25 in the morning.

There was no statement from the United Democratic Forces of the Congo about the attack.

On December 13, Syria TV reported that an attack on American and Syrian soldiers had taken place in Palmyra. After the attack, wounded American soldiers were evacuated by helicopters to the US military base Al-Tanf, located in southern Syria. Later, the Pentagon reported that two US Army soldiers and one civilian translator were killed during the operation against ISIS.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump promised to take retaliatory actions against ISIS after the deaths of American servicemen. Later, two F-16 fighter jets were lifted into the air over Palmyra.

On December 19, US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced the launch of an anti-terrorist operation in Syria in response to the attack on the US military in Palmyra. He called it revenge, not starting a war. According to him, the country under Trump's leadership "will not back down to protect its people."

On December 20, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its commitment to the fight against ISIS and called on the United States and the international coalition to support anti-terrorist efforts without harming civilians.
